Tommy Nguyen is a recent graduate of the University of Southern California and majored in History and International Relations. In University, Tommy served as Speaker of the Senate for the Undergraduate Student Government, President of the USC Political Union, and research assistant for Writer Viet Thanh Nguyen. After graduating, Tommy served as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant in Vietnam to promote cultural understanding and reconciliation between the United States, the Vietnamese Diasporic Community, and Vietnam. Tommy is also a member of the U.S Institute of Peace leadership cohort and shared his story to policy makers and diplomats from both Vietnam and the United States on the future of U.S/Vietnam relations during the U.S Institute of Peace’s Summit on War Legacy Remediation and Peacebuilding.
Tommy returned to the United States to work in his family business, Banh Mi Saigon, inspired to continue the family legacy and history to the next second generation. Tommy hopes to continue the legacy of delicious baguettes and banh mi, and expand the business to become a fabric of Vietnamese American identity in the United States.
In his free time, Tommy is an avid mountain bike rider and photographer.
